Which luxury Hotels or Resorts are the Best Places to Stay in Costa Rica?

Many searches on the web look for the “best place to stay” or the “best luxury hotel or resort” in Costa Rica.  What a difficult task for Google to show the traveler looking for a boutique or five-star hotel the option that make sense for what that specific traveler is looking for.

We have found that privacy and views are two key components of beachfront luxury.

We think it is important to understand what luxury means and what is really important to the traveler planning his or her trip.   Is it about pure “Dubai style – over the top Luxury”?  Or is it more of an “intelligent luxury” with some elements of sustainability, unique experiences, and even authenticity?

It is about experiences?  Maybe the hotel is not really the luxury, but the access to secluded beaches, pristine forests and active wildlife is what the traveler is looking for.

Below, we are exploring some different options for family getaways, romantic escapes or honeymoons as well as more off the beaten path and unique and authentic hotels, resorts and lodges.

A five-star hotel to spend a honeymoon or romantic getaway

If you are looking for an “over the top” luxurious experience that is set in a spectacular natural setting of Pacific Ocean Views and Tropical Rain Forests, we can recommend Kura in Uvita, Costa Rica.  It is the perfect example that a sustainable experience can also be sexy.

Luxurious travel experiences can be sustainable. Kura is the perfect example. Think local ownership, local products and local staff.

The top-rated family friendly luxury beachfront resort:

If you are looking for a resort that has it all, Arenas del Mar in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica, is your best bet.  Easy beach access, full set of amenities, set in a private rain forest reserve with amazing flora and fauna and spectacular views of the Manuel Antonio National Park.

Spending quality time with friends and family is a luxury. Finding the right place where everybody is at ease is not always easy. Arenas del Mar is one of the few places that has it all.

An authentic luxury experience off the beaten path:

If your idea of luxury is a place that is off the beaten path and not quite discovered yet by everybody else, head to Costa Rican’s Caribbean Beaches and Puerto Viejo.  Lush vegetation surrounds Hotel Aguas Claras, which is owned by two artists and where luxury is in every detail.

Luxury is finding that very special boutique hotel experience in a place where you least expect it. Before the opening of Aguas Claras, there was no luxury hotel experience available in Puerto Viejo.

Down to earth luxury in a mountain setting:

Luxury sometimes comes in the form of cozy and comfy.  Combine that with genuine service by local staff members and a spectacular cloud forest experience, you are at Hotel Senda Monteverde, Costa Rica.   The hotel is hidden and private but still easily accessible.

Comfort food can be luxury. Comfort lodging can also be luxury. Especially in a cloud forest setting in Monteverde. Be surprised by what Senda has to offer.

Remote luxury on a private island:

And then there is Isla Palenque in Panama.  The topical island experience that you have been dreaming about.  A truly unique experience. An undiscovered, faraway place that will energize you, refresh you, and send you back home anew.  This is a new type of luxury.

Space is luxury. Vacationing on a 400-acre island with seven private beaches and a mysterious rainforest is a luxury. At Isla Palenque there are only 8 beachfront casitas like this and one six-bedroom house. Be our guest.
