Celebrating The Cayuga Way: Three Years on The Global Stage

At the Cayuga Collection, we could find something to celebrate every day. Across our hotels and lodges, we know how to appreciate the little things like happy guests, engaged staff, and smart solutions to our day-to-day difficulties. But now and then, we have some big things to shout about too. And over the last three years, in particular, we’ve had plenty to celebrate.

2017: National Geographic Earth Changer Award

What feels like yesterday was in fact a few years ago when Cayuga won the highly-respected Earth Changer Award in National Geographic’s 2017 World Legacy Awards. After over 20 years in sustainable hospitality, the recognition from National Geographic for our leadership in environmentally-friendly business practices and green tech was a huge feat and a great team motivator. The physical award passed from hotel to hotel over a few months and the entire Cayuga family got to proudly ride the wave of glory for their collective eco-achievements.

2018: World Travel & Tourism Council People Award

The following year, we were recognized again in the World Travel & Tourism Council’s 2018 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards in the “People” category. Winning saw Cayuga receive one of the ultimate accolades in tourism, not to mention a much-appreciated international pat on the back. The hard-earned reward reminded us all that what we dedicate ourselves to on a daily basis is work with purpose. Work that makes a contribution to our communities and a difference to conservation in the areas we live.

2019: Skift Forum in New York

As for our most recent exploit, as a thought-leader on all things sustainable hospitality, Cayuga was invited to speak at the Skift Forum in New York on the topic of “The Eco-Lodge Dilemma: Authenticity and Longevity”. As always, this year’s annual Forum brought together some of the most influential CEOs in the travel and tourism space – think Hilton, TripAdvisor, Delta Airlines and Expedia to name a few – to discuss trends, troubles, forecasts and, achievements. We were honored to present and even more pleased to find that sustainable travel was higher on the agenda than it’s ever been.

So what’s to come?

Creating the perfect symbiosis between luxury and sustainability has never been easy, but what our successes over the last few years tell us is that we’re on the right track. And as always, there’s more to come from Cayuga. This year has already seen us welcome Kinkara Luxury Retreat to the Collection, bringing a whole new Costa Rica experience to our Pacific Trail. We’re also proud to announce that after long last, sustainable luxury hospitality is finally coming to Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast courtesy of the art boutique hotel Aguas Claras in Puerto Viejo, our newest addition to the Cayuga Collection.
