Sophisticated, sexy and sustainable? Not all hotels are made equal

There aren’t many hotels out there that could call themselves sophisticated, sexy and sustainable. Sure, there are hotels and resorts that might qualify under one or maybe two of those categories, but Kurà in Uvita, Costa Rica hits them all. So for anyone who thinks that “sustainable” has to mean “rustic” – and invariably unsexy – allow us to change your mind.

Sophisticated, sexy and sustainable all at the same time? Kurà hits all three

Sophistication

So flawless in its design and spectacular in its setting high in the lush Uvita hills, even Forbes Magazine called Kurà “Costa Rica’s most glamorous resort”. Overlooking a glorious Pacific horizon with views over Marino Ballena National Park’s iconic Whale’s Tail sandbar, guests of Kura – however well-traveled – never tire of the panoramas. They’re best soaked up from the salt-water infinity pool, which features its own underwater sound system and night-time floating flame.

Unsurprisingly, a pool this epic seldom fails to find its way onto many a list of the World’s Best Infinity Pools. But despite being so Instagrammable, you won’t find any posers here. Kura’s low-key high-end vibe, without any of the stuffiness, creates a level of sophistication that’s hard to find. And with only 8 luxury suites – including two with their own private pool – it’s ultra-intimate.

Sexy

Kurà is for adults only. But don’t make the mistake of inviting along a pal. In Architectural Digest’s tactful words, this is a resort made to “appeal to couples”, with condoms and tantra chairs amongst the unusual amenities you’ll find in the suites, plus a candlelit turndown service to help set the mood every evening.

Beyond the suites, the spa experience is a sexy, candlelit one too, perfect for after-dinner romance featuring desserts and champagne.

Created with lovers in mind, you’ll find double loungers, double hammocks and plenty of nooks to embrace the intimate moments at Kurà

Sustainability

Kurà is a member of the Cayuga Collection and sustainability is in our DNA. The ultra-boutique hotel was built with local materials and all furniture was designed and made locally. It also incorporates all the green tech you’d expect from a luxury eco-resort – think everything from solar panels to biological water treatment systems. The architect and all the staff are locals. Kura’s owner is too and the story behind the project is quite an unusual one.

As for the food Kurà serves up with an ocean view, it’s all locally and responsibly sourced. Menus feature Dock to Dish® seafood, grass-fed beef, and hormone-free chicken, plus plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables all grown no further than 100 miles from Kurà, and organic wines sourced from the Americas.

Similarly sophisticated, sexy and sustainable is Hotel Aguas Claras on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. Another adults-only resort of the Cayuga Collection, it’s perfectly paired with Kurà for an extraordinary coast-to-coast Costa Rican experience, so if you’re keen to plan a sexy sustainable escape, drop us a line and we’ll make it happen.
