Diving in Santa Teresa Costa Rica

Santa Teresa and Malpais on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica are better known to be hip surf towns than a diver’s paradise.  The premier diving destination in Costa Rica is Coco’s Island way off the Pacific coast.  But things might be changing.

Juan Pinto was the General Manager of Cayuga Collection’s Lapa Rios Lodge on the Osa Peninsula for four years. When Juan and his wife Cindy first came to Santa Teresa, it was originally to help out at Latitude 10 Resort, another one of the Cayuga Collection Hotels and Lodges.   They immediately saw the opportunity and demand for diving and opened a dive school in Santa Teresa.  They have been booked solid over the past weeks.

Sea turtles are just one of many species that swim beneath Santa Teresa’s famous waves

So you might come to Santa Teresa for the surfing culture and the relaxation. But why not spend a day exploring the underwater biodiversity that the Pacific Ocean around the Nicoya Peninsula has to offer?  If you stay with us at Latitude 10, we are happy to help you arrange for a dive with Juan and Cindy.

Iguana Divers is a PADI Dive Center that provides divers with the opportunity to connect with the blue beyond surfing.  They take out certified divers and offer all levels of certification for novices too.  And as the only dive operator in the area, the experience is a unique one.  Iguana’s outings are small and personalized, with groups no larger than five divers at a time.  On a typical trip, divers can see white tip reef sharks, rays, morays, and impressive schools of fish like snappers or jacks.
